Dual 18650 Battery Holders
21-10-2018, 02:11
Another batch of holders for 18650 batteries arrived recently, so I decided to put together a short review in case it comes in handy for someone. I've reviewed similar holders several times before, so this one is more of a follow-up to the previous reviews.
1604 Character LCD Display
1-10-2018, 14:52
I've had this display lying around for quite a while, but I've only just gotten around to writing a review. I probably won't have much that's new to say, since this type of display is so common that it's hard to find a radio hobbyist who hasn't heard of it. The only difference from the popular 1602 and 2004 models is that this one has 16 characters across four lines.
150 W Simple Electronic Load Kit
9-07-2018, 20:34
Some time ago, a friend of mine who works with various batteries asked me to come up with a test bench for battery packs. One of the bench’s key functions would be discharging them. At first, I planned to build everything myself, but it turned out that China sells an inexpensive, decent kit for the job, and in some situations it makes more sense to use it than to start from scratch.
Inexpensive 12.6 V 3 A Charger
22-07-2017, 00:21
Just recently, I posted a couple of reviews of chargers, but as it happened, another one accidentally came my way. Unfortunately, it’s also a 12.6 V charger (for a 3S lithium battery pack), but I decided the review might be useful because of its low price. Alas, it’s not quite what I’d hoped for, but more on that in the review.
Another charger for assembling 3S Li-Ion battery packs
19-07-2017, 22:05
Another review of another small charger for 3S (12.6 V) battery packs. Not long ago, I published a review of the 3 A version; today, it’s a simpler 1 A model. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, but I won’t get ahead of myself—the details are in the review.
Bakon BK3200 soldering station with a claimed power rating of 120 W
19-07-2017, 11:09
I came across a rather interesting soldering station. Its claimed power rating of 120 W caught my attention, as did mentions I found online that it uses induction heating. Let's see what it's all about and take it apart while we're at it.
Good-quality holders for 18650 batteries
13-07-2017, 23:14
Another mini-review of various useful little things. This time, it’s holders for one or two 18650 batteries.
Sony VTC6 batteries: high-current test
26-06-2017, 23:08
I got my hands on another batch of batteries, so I decided to put together a quick review.
iLife A6 - Robot Vacuum Cleaner
24-06-2017, 15:20
Not long ago, I published a review of the iLife A4 vacuum cleaner. I also mentioned then that it was already an outdated model that had been sent to me by mistake, since the A4S had replaced it. This time, though, I'm reviewing a genuinely new model, albeit one in a slightly higher class: the iLife A6.
12.6 V 3 A Charger, or Continuing the Discussion About Converting a Cordless Drill Battery
16-06-2017, 14:19
At the end of last year, I published a couple of reviews about converting cordless drill batteries. Today, I’ll tell you about an alternative way to charge a converted battery using a ready-made charger. As usual, we’ll take a look, take it apart, and go through the schematics and tests.
A decent kit for stripping and terminating wires
25-05-2017, 14:05
I use various terminals quite often, although I usually solder the wires to them. But I was offered a more convenient tool for the job. In fact, it was a whole kit for working with wires and terminals, so I decided to try it and see whether it really is more convenient.
ILIFE A4 robot vacuum, a little helper around the house
28-04-2017, 12:02
I was offered the chance to try out a product that was unusual for me: a robot vacuum. Since I really like all kinds of automated devices, I couldn't turn it down, so here you are reading this review. A vacuum cleaner is certainly useful, but in this case I was more interested in it as an automated device. Still, as always, although the main focus today will be taking it apart.
A Budget Kit with Four AHD Cameras and a DVR, or What AHD-M Is All About
20-03-2017, 21:40
At the end of last year, I published a review of a basic video surveillance kit consisting of four IP cameras and a DVR. At the time, someone also “hinted” that there was an alternative in the form of AHD cameras. In this review, I’ll try to explain what AHD is, how it works, and what the standard is all about.
ESCAM QD410, a 4-megapixel camera: a comparative review
19-03-2017, 13:20
Last month I posted a review of the Szsinocam camera, and mentioned then that I was planning to write another review on the subject. In the end, I decided not just to review one camera, but to compare it in part not only with the Szsinocam, but also with a camera from the well-known Hikvision brand. Hope you find it interesting :)
Szsinocam SZ-IPC-7032CSW, or an IP camera with a 2-megapixel resolution
24-02-2017, 03:52
I happened to come across several IP cameras at a well-known store and decided to try one out. You can find out what I ended up "trying out", as well as what it looks like inside and out, in this review.
Popular Panasonic NCR18650B protected batteries
24-02-2017, 02:58
Today I decided to write a short review of my latest batch of the well-known Panasonic NCR18650B batteries with protection. I thought it was a useful topic, so I decided to share my experience.
GORDAK 863, 3-in-1 soldering station
10-02-2017, 16:11
I've already posted several reviews of different soldering irons, from the simplest to some pretty sophisticated models. This time, though, I'll be looking at a more versatile option in this category of tools for electronics hobbyists.
Lowest price for the Kmoon thermal imager
22-01-2017, 01:05
About a year ago, I published an in-depth review of a thermal imager. It’s an interesting and very useful device. Then, while browsing the website of a Chinese store, I happened to come across a very attractive price for this instrument.
