Discount on the popular DL24MP load, plus an update

$24.80

I have two bits of news today. The first is good: the price of my favorite version of the load has been reduced for the sale. The second—well, I hope it’s good too :)

I should say right away that, at the moment, the DL24MP is my favorite model. Price, stability, specs—it gets almost everything right.

So, I’ve already posted a similar announcement and a brief overview of the DL24MP, where I mentioned that Atorch had already made a small update, replacing the questionable IRFP264s with the more suitable CS50N20s. They deserve a lot of credit for that. Around the same time, they also started using proper wires to connect the control module to the power and measurement sections.

It turns out Atorch went even further and released a new version of the DL24MP. They announced it on their pages in both the Atorch and Hidance stores.

There is one drawback, though. First, they may ship either version at random: some buyers get the old one, others the new one. Second, for some reason they gave it the same name as the old model...

Despite looking quite similar from the outside, there are a lot of differences.

Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:
1. Instead of wires to the front panel, there’s just a ribbon cable, and the “brains” are probably on the main board rather than in the display module.
2. The power modules can be connected, but they’re not compatible with the old ones.
3. There’s now just one power transistor, so in this respect the load is more like the DL24M. I think this is because they’re using proper transistors.
4. The shunt is also the proper kind, not the tiny one used before.
5. You can also connect an encoder, but its contacts are on the power board.
6. Apparently, the maximum current is now 50 A instead of 40 A.
7. They’ve added a USB port; the old version only had Bluetooth.
8. The front panel is silver, not black.

The naming is a mess, though. This module is also labeled CW600 and BW600, but as I understand it, the BW600 is the new DL24MP version bundled with three power modules.
And that name brings us to the BW150 model, which turned out to be quite interesting.

Atorch support provided information about connecting the encoder.

Anyway, I got in touch with an Atorch manager and ordered a couple of the new models in the full configuration, including the power modules. I don’t actually need the power modules and may put them up for sale later, but they stubbornly refused to sell the main board on its own.
They also said that if I chose the full kit, they would ship the new model, while other configurations would still get the old one for now.

I know, it’s expensive. What can you do? Besides, I already know where they’ll go, and I’m getting a base ready for them.

As for the discount, Hidance has cut the price quite a bit, down to $24.8. You also get 1% back in coins, and can apply various coupons. I couldn’t resist and ordered a couple for myself too—at that price, they’re a great deal. The price was once lower, at $22.5, but that happened only once. Otherwise, the lowest price is considered to be $25.5, against a regular price of $30.
I recommend buying one while they’re still available - link to the product page.

It’s unclear which version the Hidance store will ship, unfortunately, and the manager there takes a veeeery long time to reply.
I’m curious myself to see which one arrives, the old or the new. You could try contacting the manager, but given how long they take to reply, the sale will probably be over by then.

The point here is that they may ship the main module on its own, so you don’t have to buy the extra modules, which will probably be sold separately later anyway. By the way, there’s also more information about the new model on their page.

That’s all for now. I’ve shared everything I know at this point. Next, I’ll wait for the order to arrive, then review it and show how I plan to use it.
As usual, I’d be glad to hear your comments.

Questions and answers

What has changed in the new DL24MP?

It adds a USB port and an option to connect an encoder, and changes the power module, shunt, and front-panel connection. The stated maximum current appears to have increased from 40 A to 50 A.

How much does the discounted DL24MP cost at Hidance?

The author gives a price of $24.8. Buyers can also get 1% back in coins and apply coupons.

Which DL24MP version does Hidance ship?

The author says it is unclear: the store may send either the old or the new version. The manager replies slowly, so it may be difficult to confirm before the sale ends.
