RS485 module with galvanic isolation for connecting RD60xx series power supplies
30-10-2020, 20:23
As you may know, the RD6006, 6012, and 6018 power supplies support WiFi connectivity when the corresponding module is installed. However, the settings menu and software also include an RS485 option, indicating that this communication interface can be used as well. Not long ago, RD RIDEN added RS485 modules specifically for these power supply models to its store.
A couple of types of 5 mm LED holders

A micro-, or perhaps even nano-review of little gadgets for radio amateurs, designed simply to make your DIY devices look a bit neater.
KSD-01F thermal switch in a TO-220 package
11-09-2020, 01:45
When I ordered a multichannel battery tester, I also picked up ten thermal switches from the same store, ZKEtech. I needed them to control the cooling fans in high-power electronic loads and power supplies. I meant to review them right away, but then forgot about it, so today I decided to make up for that oversight.
Protection board for 3S battery packs
21-02-2020, 01:29
For one of my projects, I bought a small protection board. Its specs are modest: 3S, up to 10 A. In fact, I needed even less, so today I'm not just reviewing the board, but also making a small modification.
4S 40A protection board for LiFePO4 and an example of using it in a UPS
11-02-2020, 03:42
I recently posted a review of 32700-size LiFePO4 batteries, but as you can imagine, you can't use batteries without a protection board, so I ordered one too. Since I had it on hand, I put together a short review in case it might be useful to someone.
Non-contact sensor for controlling lighting
7-09-2019, 18:59
A brief look at a non-contact sensor for controlling various loads, although its main use is still controlling lighting.
Kit for assembling a speaker protection board
29-06-2019, 13:07
Today I'm reviewing a kit for building a useful device of your own: a speaker protection circuit. I'll explain what it is, why you need one, and how to assemble it. And of course, there'll be a few tests.
A selection of various sockets for banana plugs
20-04-2019, 21:04
In today’s review, I want to show you various types of sockets that, in my opinion, are perfect for all kinds of power supplies and electronic loads, even though they were originally designed for use in audio equipment.
HY-510 thermal paste and thermal pad
13-03-2019, 01:18
This isn’t my first review of various thermal interface materials, and today I’m going to try another thermal paste and another thermal pad. They’re useful things for electronics hobbyists, computer enthusiasts, and others, so I decided to test them out of curiosity. There’s also a bonus in this review: a test of three types of thermal adhesive and one more thermal paste.
"Clocks that don't tick" from China with a Japanese display
17-02-2019, 17:06
Continuing my reviews of all sorts of interesting things from Tao, I decided to write about something I ordered simply "for fun"—partly out of curiosity, and partly because I really like VFD displays. And let's not forget that every beginner electronics hobbyist is supposed to build a clock of their own :) These aren't my first clocks, of course, but whenever I build something like this, I remember my first ones, based on the KR145IK1901. So today's review is more of a nostalgic look back at clocks.
A radio amateur’s helper: three thermal adhesives and one thermal paste
1-02-2019, 12:04
Not long ago, I reviewed a thermally conductive adhesive for attaching all sorts of heatsinks to all sorts of electronic components, and one of my readers asked me to test a few more similar compounds. So today I’m reviewing—or, more precisely, testing—three types of adhesive and one thermal paste. And at the end of the review, there’ll be a table and a graph bringing together all the thermally conductive (and not so conductive) compounds and materials I’ve tested.
QC 3.0 controller for repairing a charger
27-01-2019, 04:53
Not long ago, I posted a review of a QC 3.0 charger. It was very inexpensive when I bought it, but turned out to be not fully functional. In fact, the QC feature itself didn't work. To fix it, I found the right chip on Taobao, ordered it, repaired the charger, and decided to report back in case it might help someone.
Main camera for the Cubot Power and its replacement
25-01-2019, 03:43
This story began quite a while ago, around the middle of August, when I was writing a review of the Cubot Power phone. After publishing the review, I put the phone aside for a while, and a few days later I needed it to test how well it could scan barcodes. But then I suddenly discovered that the camera's autofocus had completely stopped working. That's what can happen sometimes when you take something apart. More after the jump.
Samwha BL capacitors, a strange cable, and a little about modifying drivers on an assembly line
9-01-2019, 03:33
Following up on my review of buying ceiling lights, I decided to write an article about modifying their drivers—or, more precisely, about some interesting capacitors from Samwha, different types of electrical cable, and the details of working when you have a lot of boards to modify. I hope you find it interesting and useful.
Enclosed 18650 battery holders with a switch, too :)
29-11-2018, 02:05
As promised, here's a review of the second part of the package with battery holders. This time I'll show you enclosed holders that might come in handy for various DIY projects. This time, I'll not only take a look at them, but also do some measurements.
Holders for four 18650 batteries
28-11-2018, 01:30
Another mini-review of 18650 battery holders, this time for four cells.
Stars-922 Thermal Conductive Adhesive
27-11-2018, 03:12
I've run into situations several times where using thermal paste was either inconvenient or impossible, since it requires constant pressure to keep the heatsink against the component. So I decided to try out another useful product: thermal adhesive. Today, I'll take a quick look at it and, of course, put it to the test—especially since I've already posted a couple of reviews of various thermal interface materials.
3x18650 Holders, a Mini-Review
25-11-2018, 20:19
I recently received another batch of holders for 18650 batteries and decided to post a few photos in case anyone is looking for something like this.
