A Pair of Step-Up Converters and a Small Upgrade to SEPIC
26-11-2015, 12:40
Just recently, I came across a review of 3.3 V linear voltage regulators. I even joined the discussion, and at some point the topic of powering devices that run on 3.3 V from a lithium battery came up. Since this topic overlapped with one of my upcoming reviews, I decided to do a little experimenting myself.
Gaomon 860T, another graphics tablet.

Back in March, I reviewed the HUION 1060 Pro tablet. This time, a simpler but noticeably cheaper tablet landed on my desk.
Multimeters come in all shapes and sizes
20-11-2015, 07:56
The volt-ammeter, later known as the multimeter, is one of the essential tools for radio amateurs, radio engineers, and many others who work with electrical measurements. This time, I’ll talk a little about these instruments in general and two examples in particular. There’ll also be a short bonus mini-review at the end.

A bunch of assorted batteries for cameras and other useful devices :)

Today I’m reviewing a mixed bag of different types of batteries. It’ll be brief, but with numbers.
Teclast X98 Pro, so this is Cherry Trail
24-10-2015, 17:25
Today I plan to focus less on reviewing the tablet and more on testing Intel’s new generation of processors, Cherry Trail, which replaces the previous generation, Bay Trail. The previous generation was produced for about a year, and many mini PCs and tablets were released with these processors, so I was doubly interested to find out whether the new generation had made a difference to performance.
Universal Voltage Converter, or a Few Words About What SEPIC Is
18-10-2015, 02:32
In today's review, I want to tell you about a rather useful device: a universal voltage converter. What it is, how it works, and what it can do—as always, read on.
Beelink i68 TV Box 4K
16-10-2015, 14:21
I’m a little late with this TV box review. One thing came up, then another, but I finally got around to it. At the moment, I’m more interested in mini PCs with the new Cherry Trail Atom running Windows, but I still keep an eye on their closest competitors: Android TV boxes. The usual routine: a look at the outside and inside, a few tests, and my conclusions. If you’re interested, come on in :)
Compact Bluetooth keyboard with an interesting touchpad
16-10-2015, 10:43
I first spotted this keyboard about a year and a half ago and even wanted to buy it on AliExpress, but it didn't work out :( And now I came across this keyboard again, this time as yet another product ordered specifically for a review. I'll try to figure out whether it's actually a good keyboard or whether I was wrong the first time.
PIPO X9, a tablet and TV box hybrid.
13-10-2015, 07:49
I've already posted two reviews of mini PCs from PIPO, but this one is more of a “hybrid”—not just in terms of its OS, like the PIPO X7S, but also in its design, since this mini PC has a screen too. This mini PC isn't new, though; it's an improved version of its predecessor, the PIPO X8. Let's see what it inherited from its predecessors.
GOPHERT CPS-3205 bench power supply, or that rare case....
7-10-2015, 17:13
Sometimes I feel like no matter what I review, I always end up reviewing a power supply. But in this case, reviewing a power supply was the plan from the start. I’d seen it before, so I was even more interested in getting my hands on it and sharing my impressions with you. Tests, teardown, analysis—everything as usual, in the same place :)

Another "handy little gadget": a compact voltmeter with a measurement range up to 99.9 V

Continuing with my August 25 purchases, I have to mention this rather useful and inexpensive little voltmeter. A friend of mine picked it out, but I ordered one for myself too, just to have around.

Two Types of Holders for 18650 Batteries

Today I decided to write a very short review of some small but useful gadgets: holders for 18650 batteries. Naturally, there are pros and cons. More after the jump :)

Somehow, I haven't been writing many reviews of AliExpress products lately, but I just had to write one about this item. It all started when, on August 25, I ordered a whole bunch of little things (probably like many others did)—some for myself and some for friends who'd asked me to. The packages have started arriving recently. I'll probably write about some of the other things I ordered too, since a few of them are interesting. But for now, here's a review and complaint.
RLC and ESR meter, or a device for measuring capacitors, inductors, and low-resistance resistors.
24-09-2015, 16:24
Lately, failing electrolytic capacitors have become one of the main causes of radio equipment breakdowns. But for proper troubleshooting, a capacitance meter alone is not always enough, so today we'll talk about another parameter: ESR. I'll try to explain what it is, what it affects, and how it's measured in this review.
Kit for building a popular transistor tester
22-09-2015, 07:41
Today I’ll try to tell you about one of the most popular DIY measuring instruments. Or rather, not just the instrument itself, but a kit for building one. I’ll say right away: you can find one cheaper already assembled, but what could replace the fun of building an instrument yourself? Anyway, if you’re interested, come on in :)
36 Volts, 10 Amps, 360 Watts—or continuing to explore how power supplies work, plus a small bonus
14-09-2015, 06:08
In my previous power supply review, I touched on how to choose the right power supply. To be honest, I didn’t expect this topic to be so useful. In the comments—and even more so in private messages—people asked me about other aspects of choosing a power supply, how they work, and how to troubleshoot them. In this review, I’ll try to answer most of these questions, and perhaps raise a few new ones too :)
A kit for building a simple DDS signal generator
10-09-2015, 14:05
Continuing my series on electronic kits, this time I want to tell you about a device that can add to a beginner radio enthusiast’s collection of test equipment. It’s not really a measuring instrument, but it definitely helps with measurements.
USB 3.0 Gigabit Network Adapter
29-08-2015, 09:02
After my unsuccessful experiment with a USB network adapter, I decided to try my luck again and ordered a USB 3.0 network adapter this time. Let’s see if it’s any faster—time to get hands-on :)
