Geometer’s Computer, or Just the Acute Angle AA-B4
19-05-2019, 19:46
It’s already May, and I haven’t reviewed a single computer yet, so let’s fix that. Today we’ll look at a model that stands out from the crowd in its own way. Design is a matter of taste, of course—some people like one thing, others something else—but you have to admit this one is definitely original. As always, the review covers the exterior, teardown, tests, conclusions, and a final summary table.
HYSTOU P04 i3-7100U Mini PC, or the Computer I Couldn't Overheat
25-11-2018, 20:03
At the beginning of autumn, I tested and reviewed an interesting mini PC of mine, the HYSTOU FMP04 with an i5-7200U processor. Unfortunately, that was also when I showed the “Achilles' heel” of both the device under review and many other Chinese devices: overheating. After that, I decided to try a slightly less powerful version with an i3-7100U processor, and it really managed to surprise me. But it's better to read all about it in the review.
Beelink Gemini X45 Premium with a Celeron J4105 processor, 6 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD
14-09-2018, 17:07
It wasn't that long ago that computers with Gemini Lake core (SoC) processors started appearing on the market (I already covered one), and other manufacturers soon began releasing their own models. Today I'll be taking a look at one of them. Its key differences are 6 GB of RAM and an SSD instead of eMMC flash storage, along with a few other minor details. As always, I'll take a look inside, take it apart, run some tests and share my conclusions.
HYSTOU FMP04 Mini PC with an i5-7200U Processor
12-09-2018, 11:25
Today I’m reviewing a computer with a “industrial” form factor that’s rather unusual for most users. But that’s not all: it also has at least two COM ports and a relatively powerful i5-7200U processor.
Alfawise T1, a mini PC with an N4100 processor based on Gemini Lake
28-06-2018, 10:44
Not long ago, I saw someone mention that there hasn't been anything new on the market lately. But now I've got my hands on a mini PC with a processor announced late last year, and today I'm reviewing this new model. About a year and a half ago, I posted a review of a similar new model with an Apollo Lake processor. This version is its logical successor and is called Gemini Lake. As usual, the review covers the exterior, teardown, tests, and conclusions.
MINIX NEO N42C, a small computer based on the Intel N4200
9-03-2018, 21:54
I’ve come across computers and TV boxes made by Minix in reviews many times, but this is the first time I’ve had one of the company’s computers on my desk. I’ve read quite a few good reviews of this manufacturer’s devices, but I’ve also had a fair number of computers from other brands pass through my hands, so I was doubly interested to see whether Minix really is any better. Inspection, teardown, tests, summary table, conclusions.
HDMI dummy plug, or how to bring a PIPO X10 back to life
23-11-2017, 17:35
A little over a year ago, I bought PIPO's new mini PC, the PIPO X10. I liked almost everything about it: a large screen, a built-in battery, and an external antenna. But almost immediately, a problem became apparent: it wouldn't work properly. And it wasn't just me—this was a widespread issue. I played around with it for a while, then eventually put it on the shelf. One of my readers has now suggested a way to bring this computer back to life, so today I'll explain how to revive the PIPO.
Beelink BT3 Pro Mini PC, another one
22-09-2017, 02:06
I only recently wrote a review of a Beelink with Apollo Lake, and now I’ve come across a mini PC from the same company, but with an older processor model based on the Cherry Trail core. I’ve reviewed a similar computer before, but this model has 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of flash storage, and the word Pro in its name. So, let’s take it apart, test it, and see what this “Pro” in the name is all about.
HYSTOU FMP06, a small computer based on the Celeron N3150
13-11-2016, 10:34
Not long ago, I reviewed a small computer, and commenters said it would have been better with passive rather than active cooling. I didn't mention at the time that I'd just bought a small computer with passive cooling and similar specs. So today I'm reviewing that computer. We'll test it, heat it up, and take it apart.
