S-180-12 180W 12V / 15A power supply in an unusual form factor
8-08-2015, 09:45
In my previous power supply review, I mentioned that I had ordered two units to review. Today, I'll tell you about the second one. It's interesting in its own way and well made, but it does have some drawbacks. As always, all the details are below the fold.
MXIII-G, a 4K + Gigabit Ethernet TV box that didn't need any modifications
7-08-2015, 13:00
Taking a short break from Windows mini PCs and all kinds of power supplies, I ordered a rather interesting TV box to review. Well, interesting at least in my opinion. Find the main differences, photos of the inside and outside, and a short demo of it in action below :)
MeeGoPad T02, almost the smallest computer running Windows 8.1
29-07-2015, 06:30
Many people are already used to computers constantly getting smaller. So when I saw this tiny computer, I immediately wanted to get one to review. Especially since people had already asked me whether I’d tried it. Now I can confidently say that I have—and not only tried it, but also taken it apart and modified it, because this computer turned out to have a mind of its own. Anyway, if you’re interested in my whole saga, read on.
NB-4L and NB-7L batteries for Canon cameras
20-07-2015, 07:17
Many of you are probably familiar with this situation: at the worst possible moment, your camera (and plenty of other devices) says, “Battery depleted”—and it doesn’t care that you only have a couple of shots left to take. Batteries usually come in genuine and clone versions; this review is about the latter.
TrustFire 14500 protected 900mAh batteries, part two: continuing the experiment.
3-07-2015, 11:36
Yes, you read that right: I’ve already reviewed these batteries, including putting them to use. But this review is different from the previous one. I’ll also answer some questions that readers often ask about products received for review. Anyway, if you’re interested, the rest is as always below the fold.
USB video adapter, or almost a graphics card.
7-06-2015, 12:52
Since my work involves computers quite a bit, I'm interested in all sorts of unusual computer gadgets. Not long ago, I learned about an interesting device: a graphics card that connects to a computer's USB port. As soon as I got the chance to review one, I jumped at it. As usual, I'll take a look, take it apart, and test it.
PIPO X7S, Windows and Android: Can They Coexist?
5-06-2015, 09:14
This time, I’m reviewing a rather controversial device. The manufacturer tried to please supporters of two different user groups at once and put an end to the Windows vs. Android flame war. The solution was a dual-boot device: a mini PC that runs both operating systems (well, almost). If you’re interested, read on.
FL-4H-LCD-D, or a charger from an unknown manufacturer.
29-05-2015, 12:36
The batteries at home started multiplying unexpectedly, and since I also needed to test quite a few of them, I decided to get a charger with a capacity measurement function. But buying the well-known Opus, Soshine, or iMax would have been too obvious, so I decided to try a charger that few people have heard of. As always, the rest of the story is below the fold.
Pocket P1, a mini computer about the size of a smartphone.
30-04-2015, 10:13
I once wrote about a mini computer running Windows 8.1. This computer is very similar to it, but also has some notable differences, mostly for the better. But nothing is perfect, and I'll try to explain that in this review. I'll say right away: I'll be taking it apart :)
PIPO X7, a Windows 8.1 TV box that can easily replace a small computer.
7-03-2015, 17:12
I know quite a few people who would like to replace their desktop with a small mini PC. They want to browse the internet, watch movies on a big TV, and still be able to use it like a regular computer, albeit a small one. So, let me introduce you to a mini PC running Windows 8.1
Onda V891W, a tablet with every chance of becoming popular.
5-02-2015, 02:43
There aren't many operating systems for personal computers, tablets, and other devices. But only relatively recently has Windows begun making an aggressive push into the mobile device market. Some people are used to this OS on their home desktops and don't want to switch to another one. This review is intended mainly for that group of users. For me, a Windows tablet is primarily connected with my professional work. Anyway, if you'd like to learn more and see the tests and comparison, come on in.
12 V 5 A power supply, or how it might have been made.
25-01-2015, 15:13
I got a similar power supply, and naturally I wanted to see what they have in common and what’s different. I’ll also share my own power supply design. If you’re interested, read on.
TrustFire TF 16340 880 mAh, or when the result isn't what you expect.
30-11-2014, 04:25
This time I decided to experiment again with batteries in a less common size. Read on to find out what I got (and didn't get) in the end.
TV box MXQ S85 Amlogic S805
20-11-2014, 12:48
While a review of a DVB-T2 tuner was a fairly unusual topic for this site, a review of a TV box won't surprise anyone. These devices have become very widespread, and in this review I'll try to tell you about one of them from the perspective of someone who hadn't used anything like this before. If you'd like to read about it and see photos of the outside and inside, read on.
TrustFire 18650 2400mAh: brief, but thorough.
15-11-2014, 09:59
Just recently, TrustFire came up in one of my battery reviews. I had just received some batteries from this very brand, and they were 18650s. This review won't be very long, but it may be useful. As always, the rest is after the jump.
12 V 180 W power supply.
9-11-2014, 08:15
I often use various power supplies in my work, mainly to power video surveillance systems. I mostly use products from a well-known brand, but they’re quite expensive these days, so I wanted to try (and test) an alternative high-power 12 V power supply. Read on for the description, photos, and conclusions.
Compact infrared non-contact thermometer DT8250
6-11-2014, 13:47
I often need to quickly check the temperature of electronic components while working. I used to use a homemade contact thermometer with a DS1821 sensor. It was fairly accurate, but the contact measurement method has its drawbacks, so I ordered a small non-contact thermometer. If you're interested, the description and photos are below.
CubieTruck, or simply the Cube.
17-09-2014, 18:49
The first time I saw this mini computer, I knew I wanted one too. Read on for the rest of the story.
