Self-cooling fabric

Who hasn’t ever stepped outside and realized they’d picked the wrong clothes for the day? This situation is so common that it could even be considered one of humanity’s “global” problems.
When it’s cold, you can still put something over your outfit (a blanket, for example), but when the weather is warm or hot, that isn’t always an option.

On top of that, people who work in offices often run into disagreements over the temperature (one person is cold while another is hot), and no matter what, at least one person will feel uncomfortable in the office environment.
It’s unlikely, but possible, that one of these employees managed to complain about it to scientists at Stanford University, and they couldn’t ignore the appeal.

The result of their experiments and research was the creation of self-cooling fabric, which can lower a person’s natural body temperature by about 2°C. It consists of two layers of polyethylene with layers of cotton mesh in between. First, the fabric wicks away moisture (sweat) effectively; second, it dissipates excess heat as infrared radiation.
In the future, this material could not only reduce the energy used by office air conditioners, but also be used for specialized workwear or passive cooling systems.
