Holographic Calls. The Beginning

Lately, we keep being amazed by how many of our technological fantasies continue to come true. First and foremost, of course, we have the creativity of famous writers, artists, and screenwriters to thank for this. Drawing inspiration from their work, we are moving closer to the vision of the future we imagined for ourselves many years ago.

One of the popular areas of research today is holography (since 1960). Holography is the laser scanning and reproduction of objects in three-dimensional space, creating images that are as close as possible to real objects.

Over the course of many studies, humanity has already produced the first examples of holograms, holographic recordings, holographic portraits, and more. A recent breakthrough came from a project by South Korean mobile operator KT Corporation, whose researchers used 5G networks to make the first holographic call in history.

The call was made from South Korea to the United States, using machines that were not particularly powerful (essentially, an ordinary tablet). Naturally, the details of the development and the experiment are being kept under corporate wraps, but even the information available is enough to conclude that holographic technology could realistically be introduced into our communications and multimedia devices.
