A Really Cheap Bluetooth Adapter.
A while ago, I bought myself a Bluetooth headset. I’d been using an old adapter for years, but it’s pretty bulky, so I decided to get a smaller one.
The adapter arrived in an envelope
It came in a blister pack. One corner was a little crushed, but at this price, it’s amazing it arrived at all.
The back
I mainly bought it to replace my old adapter. After getting the headset, I started using it a lot, especially at home for Skype. I like to step out into the kitchen for a smoke while talking, so I had to move the old adapter from the port on the back of the computer to a USB hub on my desk.
That meant solving two problems.
With the old adapter, the signal would sometimes drop when I moved around in the kitchen. It was a bit annoying.
The old adapter is bulky and sticks out of the hub in a really ugly way.
The new one is much smaller and is barely noticeable in the port.
Reviews of these adapters mentioned good range, but for the BT 2.0 version. The version wasn’t important to me; I just wanted something cheap with good range. The new adapter works noticeably better, and the connection problems are gone, but a different problem has come up.
When I connect this adapter, my old, trusted BlueSoleil 2.3.0.0 displays this message.

I haven’t tried to fix it yet. As I understand it, I need to change the BlueSoleil version, so I’d like to ask users and anyone who’s run into this problem: how do you solve it? Just switch software? I’ve read that newer versions can have problems of their own.
Is there any good software to use instead of BlueSoleil?
BlueSoleil detects this adapter as follows

Overall, apart from BlueSoleil’s 5 MB limit (I think it can be fixed, and it doesn’t bother me much anyway; it’s enough for Skype), I can’t see any downsides.
Some reviews of the post I linked to mentioned the device disconnecting after a while. I tried leaving the adapter on for several days (my computer runs 24/7) and didn’t have any problems. Maybe I just got lucky.
I was really impressed by the seller’s service, which is what prompted me to write this review.
Not only did it cost just $1.20, it arrived in a blister pack, and on top of that, the seller sent this dirt-cheap gadget with a tracking number. That really surprised me; I’m used to these kinds of items being shipped without tracking.
I’m curious how they manage it: adapter + packaging + envelope + shipping + tracking number, all for the price of a pack of cigarettes—and it actually works, too?
