A cute little kitty

Today I’m reviewing something radically different from my usual subjects. Not only is it modest in size, but it’s also something I don’t normally cover.
But I liked this little kitty—and apparently I wasn’t the only one—so I wanted to tell you about it.

I like to treat my girls now and then. I happened to spot this cute little cat among the new arrivals and showed it to my girls. I had some points left over from the pre-New Year sale, so I exchanged them for a 5-off-10 coupon, added a second item, paid the difference, and waited.

Three weeks later, my order arrived: a big box and a tiiiiny little packet (I was already thinking it might get lost). Inside was a chain with a pendant.


The product page said it came with a pendant and a chain, but for some reason I wasn’t sure they’d actually include the chain.
But they sent it with the chain, just as ordered.


But to me, the chain is secondary; the pendant is the main attraction. Its photo was what caught my eye when I was browsing the store’s new arrivals :)


The chain can’t be removed, so your little critter will always be “on a leash.”


The kitty has a really firm grip on her chain and there’s no way she can fall off—which is probably for the best.




The store offered a choice of finish: glossy or matte. We chose matte; the glossy one seemed a bit too flashy.
So ours is silver-colored and matte.


The chain has a little room for length adjustment. You can fasten the clasp to any of the larger links.
The chain is made of small square links, but they’re sturdy. This fine, thread-like style of chain is called a snake chain.


The chain’s total length was listed as 45 cm, and that’s about right.
The adjustable section was listed as 5 cm; in reality, it’s closer to 4 cm.
The pendant itself is 18 mm long. It was listed as 13 mm, so I guess they measured the kitty without its paws and tail, which makes sense.
The weight was a little off, though: they said about 4 grams, but in reality it weighs just under 3 grams. I weighed it after six months, so maybe she’s lost weight—though she’s fed well :)


The listed material is 925 sterling silver. I didn’t take it to a jeweler; as far as I’m concerned, even if it were made of stainless steel, it wouldn’t make much difference. We brought it home for its looks, not because it was silver. I imagined this little kitten sitting in a warehouse among boxes, clothes, and batteries—how could we not take her home?


It’s hard to tell from the photos above what the pendant is supposed to look like. In real life, it looks like this: a little kitty clinging to a thin chain with all her might.


The camel seems to have mistaken her for an Egyptian sphinx.


And, of course, a few photos in her natural “habitat.”




I can't speak to the material, but the kitten has been worn regularly for about six months, and there are still no signs of tarnishing. Even the chain still looks as good as new.

I won't go over the pros and cons; I don't see the point. I'll just say that my wife and daughter liked the piece. To me, it looks neat and unusual, which is exactly what catches the eye.

All in all, it's a simple, inexpensive, and cute piece of jewelry that might come in handy for someone.
