ZKEtech EBC-A10H Electronic Load
11-03-2019, 15:31
A little over three years ago, I reviewed the ZKE EBC-A10 electronic load. It quickly became one of my main instruments for battery testing, and you’ve probably seen both the load itself and the graphs I included in my battery reviews. The instrument turned out to be genuinely useful. As far as I know, my review was either the first or one of the first, but it’s time for an upgrade. Today, I’ll be taking a look at the new version of this electronic load.
YR1035, another milliohm meter, an improved version of the YR1030
23-01-2019, 03:15
I posted a review of the YR1030 milliohm meter. It’s a great instrument, and I use it very often—not just when working with batteries, but whenever I need to measure low resistance. I also have a friend who works with batteries, and a while ago I suggested he buy one too. He was a little skeptical, but after seeing it in action, he decided to get one for himself. Knowing the specifics of his work, though, I recommended the updated YR1035 instead of the YR1030. Today I’ll explain how they differ and why, in this case, the 1035 is the better choice.
Universal battery holder with four-wire connection
30-12-2018, 12:00
I can't say I work with batteries very often, but I do occasionally have to test whether they're up to the job. Since I'm mostly dealing with high-current batteries, it was time to get a proper holder for them. As always, the inspection, description, comparison of the different connection methods, and conclusions are below the fold.
SIN90S, a multimeter with expanded functionality
26-12-2018, 03:16
While developing a device for testing and balancing multi-cell battery packs, I needed a multifunction meter. Since I planned to use it together with an electronic load, though, the meter had to be a little unusual. A look at the device, its description and tests, plus a short cautionary tale, after the jump.
Panel-mounted 100 V 10 A ammeter-voltmeter
18-10-2018, 03:27
I’ve already posted a review of a very similar device once before—the title was almost the same, too. This time, though, the little meter is a bit cheaper, and its quality is definitely no worse than the previous one. So, here’s a quick review of a useful little gadget for electronics hobbyists.
Voltage indicator for 1–7S lithium battery packs
8-10-2018, 12:21
I sometimes order small meters for battery packs, and I finally got around to testing them and writing a mini-review. A look at the device, a few tests, and some conclusions. I hope you find it useful.
A small ammeter rated for up to 5 A
6-10-2018, 21:51
I ordered this meter quite a while ago from a different store, but after browsing AliExpress I found a listing for a device that looks exactly the same. Since I'm almost certain they all come from the same basement large factory, here's a link to another store.
Small voltmeters up to 30–35 V
24-09-2018, 01:04
I already reviewed a small voltmeter about three years ago, and now another similar little gadget has landed in my hands. The previous one was more expensive, but it had a separate measurement input and could measure up to 99.9 V. This one is much simpler, but I figured these little meters might still be useful to someone.
SNDWAY SW-S70 Laser Distance Meter
21-09-2018, 21:45
I've already seen many reviews of this company's measuring instruments, so mine will be more of an addendum and another look at Sndway's products. I haven't come across a review of this particular model, though, and it has a few distinctive features. As usual, I'll take a look at the device, take it apart, run a few tests, compare it with another instrument, and share my conclusions.
Multichannel Voltmeter
11-09-2018, 10:35
Today I'm reviewing a somewhat unusual device. To be honest, I'm not even sure what the right title for this review would be, since this device isn't just a voltmeter, though that's probably the main thing I'm interested in here. This won't be a very long review, partly because the device is rather specialized and partly because there isn't all that much to say about it.
YR1030, a milliohm meter for measuring low resistance and the internal resistance of batteries
16-07-2018, 20:12
I've published quite a few battery reviews, and people often asked why I don't measure the batteries' internal resistance in them. My answer was usually the same: the instruments I had couldn't measure this parameter accurately, so there was no point in taking measurements. But fairly recently, I got my hands on a specialized instrument designed specifically for this kind of measurement. This device belongs to a very specialized class of measuring instruments, but I can imagine it being useful for more than just working with batteries.
An Infrared Thermometer for the Home Workshop
4-05-2018, 16:13
Hello everyone! Today I’d like to introduce you to a new and very useful tool: the PM6530D infrared thermometer. You can set the material’s emissivity on this thermometer to get more accurate surface temperature readings. It also has UV LEDs and a temperature and humidity sensor, and you can connect an external thermocouple. A built-in laser pointer helps illuminate the surface being measured. If you’re looking for a professional tool such as a thermal imager, I recommend reading this review (Thermal Imagers: What Are They and “How Do They Work”?) by KIRICH
Power-Z FL001T or another universal USB meter
14-03-2018, 01:08
Just a few days ago, I posted a review of an advanced "USB tester," but it wasn't the only thing in the package: there was also its closest equivalent, a tester from Power-Z. The two testers have a lot in common, and even cost the same, but are they really that similar in use?
ZY1276, a universal USB meter from YZXstudio
14-03-2018, 00:33
I've already posted reviews of two basic USB testers. Though, in my opinion, the very term “USB tester” is rather vague. But this time I have a much more advanced device in my hands, one that can reasonably be called a measuring instrument.
Sousim Electronic Load Controller, or Another Device for Using Up “Excess” Electricity
22-02-2018, 13:47
Last year, I reviewed two electronic loads made by Sousim. I successfully put one of them to use, and today it’s the turn of the second, which originally could only be controlled using a computer.
VAC1100A ammeter-voltmeter with a measurement range up to 120 V and 100 A, and a little more
19-02-2018, 13:53
It's been a while since I last picked up a soldering iron. A little while ago, I received a very useful little gadget, and today I plan not only to show it off but also to put it to work on a real project. Warning: lots of photos, which may be a problem for users on expensive data plans.
Uni-T UT-D07A Bluetooth adapter for UT181A, UT171A, and UT71E multimeters
19-02-2018, 04:44
A while ago, I bought a Uni-T 181A multimeter and thought that the only thing missing from the complete setup was a Bluetooth adapter. I got one as a New Year's gift, and today I'll tell you about it. Unfortunately, it turned out that things weren't quite so straightforward. More on that in the review...
Small, simple oscilloscope
6-02-2018, 04:16
Some time ago, I published a review of a kit for building a simple oscilloscope. It would have been fine, except that its bandwidth was very limited. I wouldn't say the little device I'm reviewing is much better, but it's rated for a bandwidth of up to 4 MHz. Let's see what it is and how it works :)
