A new series of batteries from TPcell, with 21700 cells and capacities of up to 15 Ah

To some extent, this is a promotional post, but in my opinion, if a manufacturer sells a product with honest specs, I personally don't see anything wrong with showing it. Especially since quite a lot of people bought these batteries after my previous reviews, and I don't remember anyone complaining about them. Besides, there's a sale on right now, with coupons and so on.

Just to be clear, the only complaint about their products concerned the charger, not the batteries. Someone bought one, and it was noticeably different from the one I showed.

Batteries from this manufacturer were featured in these reviews:

3. Charger. I probably wouldn't recommend this one. At least one reader received something different from what I received.


First, batteries for Makita - link

They're claimed to be compatible with the original chargers and, of course, the original tools.


The battery's mounting base is the same as on regular batteries for 18650 cells, but the battery itself is, of course, larger.
As with the previous version, these batteries have a protection board that monitors the voltage of each cell and protects against overload, overvoltage, over-discharge, and overheating.



Four battery types are available. Prices below include their coupons: some are applied automatically, while others need to be claimed on the product page.
1. Two-row battery with Chinese-made cells, 8 Ah capacity, price $44.48
2. Two-row battery with Samsung 40T cells, 8 Ah capacity, price $54.98
3. Two-row battery with Chinese-made cells, 10 Ah capacity, price $55.86
4. Two-row battery with Samsung 50S cells, 10 Ah capacity, price $65.43

The fourth option is obviously the best, built with top-of-the-line Samsung 50S cells. There don't seem to be any better cells than these. I reviewed them once, but under the Vapcell brand. These cells can continuously deliver up to 20 A and briefly up to 35 A, which means 40 A and 70 A respectively for the battery.



As I already mentioned, this manufacturer is honest and isn't afraid to show the actual tested capacity.
The 4 Ah cells used in the 8 Ah batteries delivered about 3550 mAh at a 30 A discharge current, which is pretty good.


The 5 Ah cells were tested at 25 A, which makes sense: higher capacity means lower current output. They delivered 4734 mAh, also a good result.


A 40 V battery is also available. It's essentially the same 10 cells, but in a 10S1P configuration - link



These are also available with Samsung 40T and 50S cells, with capacities of 4 and 5 Ah respectively.



But besides batteries for Makita, the manufacturer has also released a series for Milwaukee, including not only two-row batteries but three-row ones as well - link




I haven't seen this protection board, but I assume it does essentially the same thing as the one in the Makita batteries, i.e. provides a full set of protections.
Let me remind you once again: if you use a Chinese tool designed for the Makita battery standard, it may not protect against over-discharge when used with original batteries. With batteries that have built-in protection, the battery itself provides that protection. The point is that original batteries don't have their own power switch for protection; the tool handles that. As a result, a Chinese tool may over-discharge an original battery. Strange as it may seem, Chinese batteries offer greater safety, and they don't lock out the way original batteries do.



Four battery types are available here too, and I'll list the prices after applying the coupons from the product page.

1. Two-row battery with Samsung 40T cells, 8 Ah capacity, price - $41.27
2. Three-row pack using Samsung 40T cells, capacity 12 Ah, price - $64.35
3. Three-row pack using Chinese-made cells, capacity 15 Ah, price - $79.17
4. Three-row pack using Samsung 50S cells, capacity 15 Ah, price - $93.44



Here they provided the results of a full test of the 15 Ah battery pack at a discharge current of 30 A: the final capacity was 14,798 mAh. That’s about right: 30 A for a three-row battery pack works out to 10 A per row, meaning the discharge rate was 2C. I’d guess the pack used Samsung 50S cells.


For Milwaukee batteries, cases are available for your battery packs, as well as circuit boards. I tried to find one for Makita, but couldn’t find anything.
I’m just not quite sure what size batteries these are for.
