Pigong 8858 hot air rework station and a set of assorted accessories
23-01-2020, 04:58
I've had this hot air rework station sitting at home for a very long time. A friend lent it to me specifically for a review, but with the renovation going on, I just couldn't find the time. Finally, I picked it up to see what it's like, how it works, and of course to draw some conclusions, both positive and negative.
Oscillating Multi-Tool Accessory Set
Some time ago, I posted both a review of the MILWAUKEE 2626-20 M18 oscillating tool and a review of various accessories for it. At the time, I had only just started using it, so I couldn't say much from a practical standpoint. Today, I'll show you a set of accessories sold as a kit and share a little about my experience using this kind of tool.
Worx Cordless Rotary Hammer, or When All You Have Is a Hammer, Everything Looks Like a Nail
6-11-2018, 15:06
I use power tools often, and it just so happens that quite a few of them are battery-powered. But this is the first time I’ve tested a cordless rotary hammer, so I’m doubly curious to see what it’s like. As usual, we’ll take a look, take it apart, and put it to the test.
Raitool trim router, or “file it down after assembly”
A router is definitely not one of the most popular tools, unlike a drill, hammer drill, or screwdriver, but it can still be a real lifesaver in some situations. I can't say I'm any kind of expert when it comes to using routers, but I've had a chance to work with them a few times over the years, so today I'll share what I've learned from those experiences. I'll also talk about the different types of routers.
Another set of crimp terminals and insulated wire splices
Last month I posted a review of crimp terminals for stranded wire. Today, I’m continuing the review on the same topic. In this review, I’ll test two different sets: one contains various types of terminals, and the other contains insulated sleeves for joining wires.
Crimp terminals for stranded wire
23-05-2018, 02:31
I periodically need to use stranded cables, and some time ago I even reviewed a crimping tool. But you also need consumables for all that—in other words, the terminals themselves, preferably in different colors as well as different sizes. So I decided to buy this set.
Bakon BK3200 soldering station with a claimed power rating of 120 W
19-07-2017, 11:09
I came across a rather interesting soldering station. Its claimed power rating of 120 W caught my attention, as did mentions I found online that it uses induction heating. Let's see what it's all about and take it apart while we're at it.
A review of various attachments for an oscillating tool
4-07-2017, 21:19
Last year I posted a review of a multitool, and as everyone knows, without various saw blades, sanding attachments, and so on, it’s not much use around the house. So I decided to stock up on a variety of attachments. Part of the reason was a gift card I received from one of the websites, and part was simply a desire to buy some useful things. Read on for all the details in the review.
3D Pens: A Creative Tool
12-06-2017, 00:33
3D pens have been gaining popularity lately, but quite a lot of people still have only a vague idea of what they are and what they’re for.
A decent kit for stripping and terminating wires
25-05-2017, 14:05
I use various terminals quite often, although I usually solder the wires to them. But I was offered a more convenient tool for the job. In fact, it was a whole kit for working with wires and terminals, so I decided to try it and see whether it really is more convenient.
DXL360S, dual-axis digital inclinometer
18-05-2017, 15:11
I happened to come across a small, but presumably interesting, item and thought it would be worth taking a closer look. It’s not a very common tool—I’d even call it niche—but it can be quite useful in some situations.
UNI-T UT387B, a tool for locating hidden utilities
Finding—or, more precisely, locating—wires and rebar inside walls is very useful when doing repairs or installing various equipment. This review is about one such tool. It’s quite specialized, but still useful.
10-Watt Laser Engraver
20-04-2017, 03:49
I’ve already reviewed a DIY engraver with a 2.5-Watt laser. As it happened, I got my hands on a similar engraver, but four times more powerful, though it does have a few quirks of its own. Everything about the engraver and its quirks, as always, after the jump.
Set of 0.5–0.9 mm carbide drill bits, a quick look at
14-03-2017, 13:16
Today's brief review is about a fairly ordinary tool: drill bits. There's not much to say about them, and what could you possibly tell people about a small twist drill bit that they don't already know? Still, as usual, I'll take a look at them and try to put them through some kind of test :)
STANLEY STSJ6501-A9, aka DeWalt DW349, or simply a jigsaw
19-02-2017, 05:10
My first—and until recently, only—jigsaw came along about 8 years ago. It helped me out quite a lot and got a little "tired," so I wanted to get it something newer and possibly better to help out. Today I'm going to talk about a STANLEY jigsaw, although things aren't quite that simple.
GORDAK 863, 3-in-1 soldering station
10-02-2017, 16:11
I've already posted several reviews of different soldering irons, from the simplest to some pretty sophisticated models. This time, though, I'll be looking at a more versatile option in this category of tools for electronics hobbyists.
Milwaukee Electric Tool 2607-22CT M18 Hammer Drill Kit
22-09-2016, 10:16
I’ve already reviewed a couple of inexpensive cordless drills, and in the comments people told me I’d be better off sticking with products from reputable brands. Well, this time I’ll show you a product from the opposite end of the spectrum: a tool from one of the best-known brands in the US, and a fairly well-known one here too—Milwaukee.
Bakon BK950D, a compact soldering station with a T12 soldering iron
29-05-2016, 15:46
I'm often asked to recommend a soldering iron that's reasonably priced, offers decent quality, and has temperature control. Recently, I ordered a mini soldering station that might well fit the bill. There are already a couple of reviews of this station on the site, so mine is more of a short addendum to the existing ones.
