External 128 GB SSD with USB Type-C interface
28-11-2019, 03:20
When I started writing this review, I spent a while wondering whether to classify this device as an SSD or a flash drive. In the end, I decided it was more like an external SSD than a flash drive. You'll find out why in the review, which also includes a look at the device and some testing.
New RD6006 (W) Voltage Converter Module from Rui Deng
23-11-2019, 00:57
The new product from Rui Deng has finally made its way to me: an adjustable voltage converter for building a bench power supply. I originally planned a more extensive review, but one of the suppliers let me down badly and shipped the power supply much later than I’d hoped, so I had to split the review into two parts: a main part and a follow-up. The follow-up will also answer questions that came up after reading the main part.
LG HG2 Batteries and an Interesting Experiment
The third type of battery sent to me by one of my blog’s regular readers. I’d originally planned a fairly routine review, since what new is there to say about such well-known batteries as the LG HG2? But, quite unexpectedly, an ordinary review of ordinary batteries turned into an interesting experiment. As always, more after the jump.
Samsung ICR18650-26F and ICR18650-26H batteries, and a little about other similar models
The second battery—or rather, batteries—sent to me by one of my regular readers, whom I’d like to thank. There’s nothing particularly remarkable about them, except for the large number of models that are barely distinguishable from one another.
Another high-capacity battery: Sanyo NCR18650GA
I've reviewed a lot of batteries, including high-capacity ones, but one interesting "fellow" had never been tested. Thanks to one of my regular readers, I now have it in my hands, and today I'll be taking a look at the Sanyo NCR18650GA.
Beelink GT-King Pro TV box based on the new Amlogic S922X-H
27-10-2019, 12:24
Some time ago, the ambitious Beelink GT-King Pro TV box was unveiled. Essentially, it’s an updated version of the Beelink GT1-K, and today I’ll take a look at this new model. As usual, I’ll inspect it, take it apart, run some tests, and share my conclusions.

Air conditioner power supply, or the story of a repair

I came across a faulty power supply and decided to jot down a note about repairing it, and while I was at it, answer a few questions people ask me, using a real example, so to speak.

Preparing power supplies for a multichannel battery tester

This is the second part of the saga, “a battery tester for a friend,” and today I’ll be talking about changing the output voltage of the power supplies and connecting them in series.

Large-scale comparison of lithium batteries, 2019

18 1582
After reviewing so many batteries, I decided to bring them all together in one big article. No unnecessary information here—just inspections, tests, comparisons, and brief comments on any noteworthy features observed during testing. Warning: this page uses a lot of data!

Power module for a multichannel battery tester

As the “repair” project gradually winds down, I’m slowly finding time to get back to my other projects. I’ve started with the multichannel tester for lithium battery packs, which I first wrote about last year. There will be several stages, but the first is the most challenging one: the power module.
Sanyo NCR20700B, interesting 20700-size batteries
Today I’m reviewing batteries that are, in essence, nothing particularly special: a current rating of up to 15 A and a capacity of around 4200 mAh. The only thing that sets them apart is their somewhat uncommon form factor, but as always, you’re better off reading the full review.
LG INR21700-M50T, high-capacity 21700 batteries
More 21700-format batteries, this time focused on fitting the maximum capacity possible into this size. I’ve already reviewed similar batteries, but from Samsung. They’ll be taking part in today’s comparison.
LG INR18650-HG2L, “chocolate bars” in new clothes
Well, friends, today’s review is about some rather unusual batteries. Many of you know LG’s very popular HG2 model, the so-called “chocolate bars,” but who has seen these batteries in blue? A closer look, tests, comparisons—all in today’s review.
Molicel INR21700-P42A: More Batteries from E-One Moli Energy
This time, we’re looking at high-current Molicel batteries again, but in the newer 21700 form factor. Well, not exactly new: batteries of this size have been around for quite a while, but they’re still much less common than the more widely used 18650 cells. In any case, I liked these batteries, but you’ll have to read the full review to find out more.
Molicel INR18650-P28A Batteries from E-One Moli Energy
Not long ago, someone asked me if I had tried Molicel batteries. That’s when I realized that not only had I never tried them, I’d never even heard of them before. So I ordered a couple of different form factors in this batch to test, especially since they’re advertised as high-current cells. I hope this will be interesting.
Panasonic NCR18650G, the highest-capacity 18650 battery—is it for real?
Well, friends, I got my hands on the highest-capacity 18650 battery—or at least, that's what they say "on the internet." I ordered them specifically to check whether that's true, and to add them to my "database" of various batteries.
Panasonic NCR18650BD Batteries: Tesla in Your Pocket
A new batch of batteries arrived not long ago, and today I'm reviewing the first one: the Panasonic NCR18650BD, rated at 3200 mAh.
Set of plastic standoffs for circuit boards, 300 pieces
9-09-2019, 03:29
Not too long ago, I was reworking an electronic load and rediscovered plastic fasteners—or, more specifically, plastic standoffs for mounting circuit boards. Of course, you can use them to mount more than just circuit boards, but in my case, circuit boards are what I run into most often. So today I have a quick look at a set of plastic standoffs for M3 screws.
