Decent leads for a bench power supply and alligator clips
31-05-2023, 11:49
Like many others, I use leads with alligator clips to connect a bench power supply or electronic load, and I felt like replacing them. Of course, I could make my own leads, and I do use some, but I was feeling a bit lazy. I searched AliExpress, found what looked like a decent option, ordered it, and decided to share my impressions.
More fans, or how I bought Sunon fans
28-05-2023, 13:01
As I’ve already mentioned, I needed some high-performance fans for one of my projects. First I bought a couple of AVC fans, then, almost as an afterthought, three more from Sunon. Tests showed that the AVC fans I bought didn’t live up to their specs, but it was hard for me to judge what they should be like since I had nothing to compare them with. Today, though, I’ll show you the Sunon fans and compare them with the originals.
EGS002 board and display for building a pure sine wave inverter
12-05-2023, 13:37
Today's review will be very short, partly because there isn't really much to review here, and partly because the project this board was intended for is still in development. Still, I hope you'll find it useful.
Interesting 70 mm AVC fans
11-05-2023, 13:26
Continuing the discussion about electronic loads. As everyone knows, a load is something that usually gets very hot. And when something gets hot, it sometimes needs cooling. The most common solution is a heatsink, and when that isn't enough, you add a fan as well. Fans aren't exactly cheap in local stores these days, especially high-performance ones, so I ordered some from China.
Used FDA59N30 transistors and a comparison with new ones
9-05-2023, 02:54
I’ve covered buying used components from AliExpress/Taobao on my blog several times, but I decided to play roulette once again, and it looks like I got lucky this time.
Fuses for a multimeter, 1 and 10 amps
30-04-2023, 02:52
Today I have a short review on a very popular topic: fuses. Yes, we’re talking about the component that, as everyone knows, is the last thing to blow. Of course, there are plenty of nuances here, and I’ll try to explain some of them.
A 500 W charger—so this is what you’re like, Abibas
22-04-2023, 15:11
Some time ago, one of my subscribers sent me a power supply—or, more precisely, a charger—not for repair, but for testing and review. But what’s actually more interesting is a certain “special feature” I’ve wanted to tell you about for a long time, but hadn’t come across a sample to show. To get ahead of myself, everything turned out better than I expected :)
Makita Power Tool Battery Charger
8-03-2023, 03:32
As I mentioned before, along with the BL1850 and BL1860 batteries, I also received a charger for them. At first, I hadn't even planned to review it, but I tested it while checking the batteries, took it apart, and decided it was probably worth writing about after all.
BL1860 battery for Makita tools
7-03-2023, 15:16
So, I’ve just finished testing the second battery I received, and this one is the BL1860, rated at 6 Ah. Inspection, teardown, tests, conclusions—as usual.
Makita power tool batteries and charger
7-03-2023, 00:30
Not long ago, I was asked to test and review some batteries for Makita power tools. Since this is right up my alley, and the batteries were expected to be good, I thought, why not? In short and subjectively: they’re solid. For the long, objective version, read on.
Universal QC and PD Protocol Trigger (Dummy Load)
26-02-2023, 02:58
Some time ago, I reviewed a universal trigger that was advertised as offering convenient controls and Power Delivery support, but in practice it turned out to be pretty mediocre. This time, I bought a few simple, compact models that turned out to be surprisingly good.
Pure sine wave inverter, or how the Chinese have gotten too bold
7-02-2023, 14:16
Around the middle of December, I ordered several inverters. I also decided to order a couple from a different store than the one I usually use. Naturally, I read the reviews first, where buyers showed that yes, it really does produce a pure sine wave output. But things turned out not to be so simple.
An Interesting but Slightly Strange Battery Protection Board
6-02-2023, 03:30
While preparing a couple of upcoming reviews, I needed to assemble a battery pack. Since the cells are lithium-based, they usually need a protection board. I originally bought this one for other batteries, but it came in handy here too.
A soft, great cable for a soldering iron, but...
4-02-2023, 03:07
While I’m getting material ready for some other reviews, I decided to put together a short one. I remember getting carried away last time and saying I’d try to keep things a bit shorter, and today seems like just the right occasion :) In short, I’ll show you a pretty good cable for a soldering iron.

Another set of Vapcell LiFePO4 32700 batteries with a claimed capacity of 6200 mAh

4 82112
28-01-2023, 13:15
Back to the topic of off-grid power. Today I have some 32700 LiFePO4 batteries on my desk. Why “again”? Because this is already my fourth review of batteries in this size, and my second review of similar batteries from Vapcell.
An unusual power bank with a QC/PD output of up to 22 W and a few quirks
26-01-2023, 21:03
A couple of months ago, I was browsing AliExpress and came across some interesting power bank cases. What caught my eye was how often I saw them, in all sorts of variations, yet they all shared the same style: a colored cartridge inside a transparent case. Anyway, I ordered one and it arrived.
Emulator for controlling a QC/PD power supply
23-02-2022, 15:46
This device is more commonly called a trigger, though that’s not quite accurate. Somehow, the name just stuck. I decided to order one mostly on principle—“just to have it.” And since I’ve got it in my hands now, why not test it and show what it can do?
Compact converter with QC support and two outputs
21-02-2022, 14:41
I got my hands on a dual-port converter with QC support for a little while, so I decided to test it a bit in case anyone finds it useful.
