ABOXOO ET001 Electronic Cigarette
23-02-2019, 13:58
Today I have a somewhat unusual review for me. There won’t be any teardown or special tests—mostly just a description, a look around, and my subjective impressions. The subject is an electronic cigarette with a design I’m not used to.
SONY DSC-W800 camera, or busting stereotypes
1-01-2019, 13:39
I often see comments along the lines of “brands don’t need advertising.” So today I’m taking a quick look at a branded camera from a very well-known company. In this case, I received the product for review. Inspection, tests, conclusions—all after the jump.
Wismec WS-04 atomizer with a resistance of 1.3 ohms and a power rating of 8–14 W
26-09-2018, 14:29
Not long ago, I posted a review of a somewhat unusual electronic cigarette from Wismec, and mentioned that I’d ordered some atomizers for it. I liked a particular type of heating element, and I also found out that they’re hard to find in local stores, so I decided to order a few as spares from AliExpress. Anyway, here’s a short review with plenty of photos.
Wismec Active Kit 80W With Bluetooth Music Electronic Vaping Device
16-09-2018, 00:02
Some time ago, a manager from the vapesourcing store contacted me and offered to try out their new product and, of course, write a review. Since I smoke, I decided to give it a try rather than turn it down, especially as the device itself is somewhat unusual, and I hadn't come across any reviews of one like it. To be fair, I should say right away that the last time I tried vaping was about 3–3.5 years ago, but it didn't really grab me, so this review will be more of a "beginner's" perspective than that of an experienced vaper.
Bidirectional HDMI Switch
16-01-2018, 03:48
As it happens, I often need to use a couple of devices with HDMI outputs at the same time, but my monitor has only one input. So I decided to make switching between sources a little easier. I used to solve this by using the monitor’s second, VGA input. Then I got more devices with HDMI, so I had to use an HDMI-to-VGA converter. Eventually I got tired of that and picked up an HDMI signal switch for myself—and to review. So, here’s another short review
MIXZA 128GB microSD memory card
12-01-2018, 04:04
It's been a while since I reviewed a memory card. To be precise, I've only reviewed two: 32 GB and 64 GB cards. This time I decided to try a 128 GB card. I got it to test devices, since prices for cards of this capacity are gradually coming down, and users increasingly want to use them in dash cams, tablets, and so on. Naturally, people ask questions like, “Will it work with a 128 GB card?” So today, another short (really short) review of a small memory card.
WeLoop Hey 3S Fitness Watch
8-12-2017, 21:59
At first, I wanted to title this review something like “yet another smartwatch,” but that doesn’t quite fit what I’m reviewing here. “Fitness tracker” doesn’t seem quite right either. That’s because this watch isn’t really “smart” yet, but it’s clearly more than just a fitness tracker. So today’s review is about a fitness watch from WeLoop.
64×32 RGB LED panels, or how to buy this kind of equipment in China
27-10-2017, 20:45
This is already my fourth review of LED panels for building displays. This review wasn’t originally part of my plans, and neither was buying these panels. In my previous review, I wrote that a seller’s mistake had left me with a controller, so I ordered another batch of LED panels for it. Since I had a specific display size in mind, I had to order panels with a resolution of 64×32 pixels. So, this is a brief review, a little theory, and answers to some of the questions I was asked after publishing the previous installments.
LED panels, controllers, or how to build an LED screen, part two
20-09-2017, 23:04
In the first part of the review, I talked about LED panels and controllers. In this second part, I’ll focus more on the software, testing, and demonstrations. I’ll also talk about the problems I ran into—because of course there were some.
LED panels, controllers, or how to make an LED display, part one
20-09-2017, 22:35
They say that appetite comes with eating, and that’s certainly true. I can confirm it 100%. I’ve already posted two reviews of LED panels—though, more accurately, one review and one follow-up. Today I’ll tell you about higher-resolution LED panels, controllers, and my dealings with the sellers. So brew yourself some coffee or tea, get comfortable, and settle in for a long read. Warning: this review is very long and may be a problem for users on metered connections.
More LED panels: upgrading the scrolling display
6-08-2017, 01:33
Back in winter, I posted a review of 64x32-pixel RGB LED panels, which gave me a 192x32-pixel scrolling display. But, as I found out once again, the more you have, the more you want, so I decided to double the resolution—not by making it longer, but by making it taller. Anyway, if you're interested in this topic, come on in.
Homgeek, manual mini coffee maker for making espresso/lungo
22-07-2017, 00:57
Today I have a short review of a compact espresso maker. It’s an interesting little device, and in some situations it can even be useful. I’ll tell you all about it in the review, so if you’re curious, read on.
Balancing connector with wires
14-07-2017, 23:04
This review is barely even a micro-review; it's more of a nano-review, it's so short. Still, I thought it might be useful to someone.
Frames for assembling battery packs from 18500/18650 cells
12-07-2017, 01:33
Today I have not just a mini review, but a micro review. It’s about some very inexpensive but useful “helpers” for anyone who often uses battery packs made from 18500, 18650, and similar cells.
A compact four-port USB 3.0 hub from Ugreen
13-06-2017, 23:00
A couple of years ago, I published a review of a compact USB hub. It works fine, and I have no complaints about it, but after using it for a while, I found it wasn't very convenient for me. This time, I picked a USB hub from a different manufacturer to review. It has a slightly different port layout, but I also found out along the way that it's an updated version of hubs from this manufacturer that I reviewed earlier.
A pair of AHD 1920x1080 cameras + DVR
3-05-2017, 16:09
Last month I posted a review of a kit with four AHD cameras and a DVR made by Cotier. At the same time, I ordered a pair of 2 MP AHD cameras from the same manufacturer. But as it turned out, this ended up becoming a review of both the cameras and a different DVR. Anyway, you can see what happened, why, and how in this review.
YUNDOO Y8, a powerful TV box
14-04-2017, 14:38
A new release for this year has landed in my hands: a TV box based on RockChip's new RK3399 SoC. Let's just say I "happened to come across it", but I couldn't resist taking a closer look—especially since mine came in what you might call the "top-of-the-line configuration": 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash storage. Anyway, if you're interested in the teardown, a closer look, and a few tests, read on :)
Beelink SEA I, TV box based on the Realtek 1295, with HDMI input
27-03-2017, 17:18
Buying this TV box was a bit of a gamble, partly because of the new processor and partly because of some features you don't get with other TV boxes. But in any case, I just wanted to give it a try and check out the new "hardware". Let's take a look, put it through its paces, and take it apart.
