Panel-mounted 100 V 10 A ammeter-voltmeter
18-10-2018, 03:27
I’ve already posted a review of a very similar device once before—the title was almost the same, too. This time, though, the little meter is a bit cheaper, and its quality is definitely no worse than the previous one. So, here’s a quick review of a useful little gadget for electronics hobbyists.
Ugreen PB107 Power Bank with a claimed capacity of 10000 mAh
11-10-2018, 02:14
Power banks are pretty rare subjects in my reviews. Somehow, I hardly ever use them in everyday life, but when I was offered the chance to review one, I decided not to turn it down. As usual, this review covers the exterior, teardown, tests, and conclusions.
Voltage indicator for 1–7S lithium battery packs
8-10-2018, 12:21
I sometimes order small meters for battery packs, and I finally got around to testing them and writing a mini-review. A look at the device, a few tests, and some conclusions. I hope you find it useful.
A small ammeter rated for up to 5 A
6-10-2018, 21:51
I ordered this meter quite a while ago from a different store, but after browsing AliExpress I found a listing for a device that looks exactly the same. Since I'm almost certain they all come from the same basement large factory, here's a link to another store.
1604 Character LCD Display
1-10-2018, 14:52
I've had this display lying around for quite a while, but I've only just gotten around to writing a review. I probably won't have much that's new to say, since this type of display is so common that it's hard to find a radio hobbyist who hasn't heard of it. The only difference from the popular 1602 and 2004 models is that this one has 16 characters across four lines.
24 V 3 A Power Supply
30-09-2018, 22:48
Many of my readers know how much I enjoy writing power supply reviews. It’s probably my favorite topic. But today’s review will be a little different from my usual ones—and for good reason, it’ll be short. So, if you’re interested in switching power supplies, come on in.
3-Watt 2820 LED Arrays
28-09-2018, 12:55
This story began quite a while ago. First, about four and a half years ago, I bought several LED lights that had worked pretty well all this time. Then one of them finally failed. Since I didn't want to replace them all, the obvious decision was to repair it and, while I was at it, put together a "repair kit" for the others, which were still working.
Mecool KM8, a TV box with voice control and Certified Android TV
27-09-2018, 12:16
About six months ago, I reviewed a Mecool TV box with voice control. Today, I’ll show you a very similar, though different, TV box from the same company with roughly the same features. As always, the review will include an inspection, teardown, tests, and a summary table.
Wismec WS-04 atomizer with a resistance of 1.3 ohms and a power rating of 8–14 W
26-09-2018, 14:29
Not long ago, I posted a review of a somewhat unusual electronic cigarette from Wismec, and mentioned that I’d ordered some atomizers for it. I liked a particular type of heating element, and I also found out that they’re hard to find in local stores, so I decided to order a few as spares from AliExpress. Anyway, here’s a short review with plenty of photos.
Compact Hi-Link HLK-PM12 power supply
25-09-2018, 12:05
For some reason, there are very few reviews of power supplies like this. That’s understandable: buyers are usually more interested in high-power models than in little units rated at just 3 W. But compact models are sometimes exactly what you need for various low-power devices, especially when they’re highly reliable. Today I’m taking a look at just such a power supply, made by Hi-Link.
Small voltmeters up to 30–35 V
24-09-2018, 01:04
I already reviewed a small voltmeter about three years ago, and now another similar little gadget has landed in my hands. The previous one was more expensive, but it had a separate measurement input and could measure up to 99.9 V. This one is much simpler, but I figured these little meters might still be useful to someone.
Zheino M3-128 GB mSATA SSD
23-09-2018, 12:12
For a few reasons, I needed an mSATA SSD. I first looked at local stores, then at stores on AliExpress. I came across various brands, but noticed that many sellers offered drives from a brand I hadn't heard of before: Zheino. There were quite a lot of them, and the prices were pretty reasonable. I found a seller with a large number of sales, bought one, received it, and decided to share it with everyone. An inspection, some tests, and a few conclusions.
SNDWAY SW-S70 Laser Distance Meter
21-09-2018, 21:45
I've already seen many reviews of this company's measuring instruments, so mine will be more of an addendum and another look at Sndway's products. I haven't come across a review of this particular model, though, and it has a few distinctive features. As usual, I'll take a look at the device, take it apart, run a few tests, compare it with another instrument, and share my conclusions.
DPS-5020 Adjustable Voltage Converter and Enclosure
19-09-2018, 18:56
Today on my workbench I have an adjustable voltage converter with an output voltage of up to 50 V and a current of up to 20 A. As far as I know, this is the most powerful converter in RuiDeng's product lineup. What's more, its specifications are very similar to those of the ZXY-6020, which I reviewed earlier and will be comparing it with today. While I'm at it, I'd like to say a big thank-you to one of my regular readers, without whom this review probably wouldn't have happened.
Batteries for Uniden radios, BP-38 BP-40
18-09-2018, 14:47
Not long ago, I was asked to buy a number of batteries for some radios. It was a pretty straightforward job: I found a suitable listing on AliExpress, placed an order, and a while later picked them up at the post office. But is everything really as good as it seems? Today’s review is a “micro” one; I’ll try to keep it short and stick to the facts.
Wismec Active Kit 80W With Bluetooth Music Electronic Vaping Device
16-09-2018, 00:02
Some time ago, a manager from the vapesourcing store contacted me and offered to try out their new product and, of course, write a review. Since I smoke, I decided to give it a try rather than turn it down, especially as the device itself is somewhat unusual, and I hadn't come across any reviews of one like it. To be fair, I should say right away that the last time I tried vaping was about 3–3.5 years ago, but it didn't really grab me, so this review will be more of a "beginner's" perspective than that of an experienced vaper.
AK4495SEQ + USB converter: building a DAC from a kit
I've built lots of different kits: amplifiers, an oscilloscope, a signal generator, all sorts of measuring instruments and power supplies. Now it's time to try something new for me: building a DAC. In this case, we're talking about an audio DAC (digital-to-analog converter). As usual, in this review I'll show you the kit itself, the assembly process and some tests. But I'll also try to fit the whole thing into a case afterward :)
Beelink Gemini X45 Premium with a Celeron J4105 processor, 6 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD
14-09-2018, 17:07
It wasn't that long ago that computers with Gemini Lake core (SoC) processors started appearing on the market (I already covered one), and other manufacturers soon began releasing their own models. Today I'll be taking a look at one of them. Its key differences are 6 GB of RAM and an SSD instead of eMMC flash storage, along with a few other minor details. As always, I'll take a look inside, take it apart, run some tests and share my conclusions.
