AMC7135 or the revival of a notorious flashlight.
17-11-2014, 01:49
Not long ago, I posted a review of a small flashlight. In that review, I described a problem with the flashlight, specifically its faulty, unusable driver. Read on to see how I dealt with it. It won't be very long, but I think it'll be useful.
RFID 125 kHz reader, or DIY when you least expect it :)

In September, I posted a review of RFID key fobs, and now it's time to review something these fobs are often used with. Interested? Come on in.
TrustFire 18650 2400mAh: brief, but thorough.
15-11-2014, 09:59
Just recently, TrustFire came up in one of my battery reviews. I had just received some batteries from this very brand, and they were 18650s. This review won't be very long, but it may be useful. As always, the rest is after the jump.
12 V 180 W power supply.
9-11-2014, 08:15
I often use various power supplies in my work, mainly to power video surveillance systems. I mostly use products from a well-known brand, but they’re quite expensive these days, so I wanted to try (and test) an alternative high-power 12 V power supply. Read on for the description, photos, and conclusions.
Hakko T12 tips and using them in a non-Hakko soldering station.
8-11-2014, 11:42
I use a variety of tools in my work, but one of the most important tools for an electronics engineer is a soldering iron—perhaps the most important one. Soldering irons come in many different types. I mentioned one version of a mini soldering station in one of my reviews a while back. But I also have a second soldering station, which also needs consumables in the form of tips. That's what this article is about.
Compact infrared non-contact thermometer DT8250
6-11-2014, 13:47
I often need to quickly check the temperature of electronic components while working. I used to use a homemade contact thermometer with a DS1821 sensor. It was fairly accurate, but the contact measurement method has its drawbacks, so I ordered a small non-contact thermometer. If you're interested, the description and photos are below.
A decent DVB-T2 tuner at a reasonable price.
5-11-2014, 02:30
When I first started exploring Chinese online stores, I already wanted to buy a tuner for receiving digital TV broadcasts. But since using these tuners could cause problems here in our country, I didn't want to take the risk. When I was offered another product to review, I couldn't resist this time and decided to give it a try. If you'd like to hear the rest of the story and see photos of the outside and inside, read on.
RFID 125 kHz key fobs, a mini-review.
3-10-2014, 21:23
Since I also work with various access control systems, I sometimes use a lot of keys with RFID tags. To be honest, I was just tired of paying three times (and sometimes five times) as much for them, so I went looking for them in China. Read on to see how it went.
The NF8108 cable tester is a great tool, but it has an unpleasant catch.
1-10-2014, 04:39
Wherever you look, there are computers all around us. Big ones, small ones, embedded ones—and now IP cameras are becoming increasingly common, not to mention access control systems and the like. Much of this equipment is connected via twisted-pair cable. Wireless systems aren't always practical, especially at industrial sites. And of course, all this equipment needs to be monitored. Read on for a description of the device that helps me do that.
ECT CE4W-2 or my first e-cigarette.
23-09-2014, 07:52
I've been smoking for over 20 years, but this was my first time trying an e-cigarette. Read a longtime smoker's impressions below.
Small flashlight with CREE XM-L T6
22-09-2014, 12:23
While browsing various reviews, including flashlight reviews, I realized that I don't have a single flashlight at home. Well, what I do have could only loosely be called a flashlight. So I decided to order a couple of inexpensive flashlights; this is a review of the first one. In short, it could have been better.
CubieTruck, or simply the Cube.

The first time I saw this mini computer, I knew I wanted one too. Read on for the rest of the story.

My wife had a little phone that worked great and did everything she needed, but then it suddenly started acting up. She didn't want to buy a new one—she'd already gotten used to this one. Besides, it had recently been fitted with a higher-capacity battery, so it lasted longer and was even more comfortable to hold. So we decided to fix it. More after the jump.
TrustFire 14500-size batteries and a little DIY.
12-09-2014, 14:18
At work, we have quite a few portable radios, powered by Ni-MH batteries. They charge them any old way, so the batteries fail quickly. Lithium batteries were ordered as replacements. If you're interested, read on after the break.
The 2004 display, or when the 1602 is no longer enough.
6-09-2014, 10:10
At the beginning of last month, I reviewed the 1602 display and also talked about one way to use it. But as they say, appetite comes with eating, and I wanted to make a version of this device with a larger 2004 display. But the display model isn't the only difference. If you're interested, read on.

While I work on a short but fairly complex review, I decided to take a little break and write about a Bluetooth-UART module. Not long ago, I did a series of reviews devoted to one of the radio amateur's essential tools: the bench power supply. By the time I was writing the review of the USB-RS232 adapter, I was already planning to call it a day. But then I thought: why use wires to control a power supply in the 21st century? Read on for the rest of this experiment.
4.3-inch monitors and a bit of DIY tinkering.
19-08-2014, 00:34
Not long ago, a member of the Muska community known as lolipop posted a review of a small monitor. Then, just a few days later, at one of my sites, someone complained once again that their video intercom screen was dying. Remembering the monitor review, I decided to order a couple for myself too. Read on to see how it turned out.
Spoon scale, mixed feelings.

While browsing the Chinese Bay, I came across this gadget. It intrigued me so much that I decided to order one for a review. Description and photos after the break.
